Cowgirls Cycling & Social Club We get a lot of requests from people wanting to buy the team jersey so we created a club. It's a club made up of people worldwide who simply enjoy riding and like the bovine theme of the team. All we ask is that you send us photos of yourself in the jersey in your home locale for the "Where in the World" page of this site. Click here to see where the jersey has been!

Club Member Ken Joins Team at Local 'Cross Race

It was too nice a day not to go out and ride a cyclocross race. For the unitiated, that's a mix of road and off road racing that involves getting off your bike and carrying it as you jump over man made obstacles. Or, in some cases, natural obstacles (like logs) that have been placed strategically by evil course designers to inflict maximum oxygen debt.

Today's race was at Badger Prairie park in Verona and put on by the ever capable Capitol Velo Club (CVC). The course designers did a great job making a course that was tactical, hard, and rarely easy. There was a short stretch of road (uphill) that was "easy" compared to the rest of the winding course. If you weren't screaming downhill, you were charging uphill or picking your way through the hairpin turns and a sandpit. I think I shall have sand in my shoes for a year.

Our teammate Ken was racing on the course at the same time in the Mens 40+ race. He looked good when he passed me and he wound up 7th, very respectable considering he crashed.

There were about 10 women in the A race and of course I blasted off the line, crit style and led for the first half lap. I had trouble clipping in after the sand pit and lost first place and settled in to chase. Only to be passed half a lap later so I settled in to chase. Only to be passed 2 laps later...so, well, you get the picture. Finally I found myself in 5th and was able to hit cruise control. I had only cruiser speed left at that point.

For her part, Rachel was cruising well, having ridden 114 or so miles the day before. She opted to go on the famous "Apple Cider" ride which starts in Madison and goes to Baraboo and back. She looked mighty good for someone who was recovering from a century ride the day before!

It was a fun day and the CVC club did a beautiful job with the course and even provided food and beverages. Thanks to CVC and to the fine women competitors who were so gracious in supporting one another on the course.

Cowgirls Club Snags Practice Crit Win

The Cowgirls club has grown and due to a highly selective and secretive process, now includes two men. Yup, we want to welcome Dean Gore and Ken Haines as the two newest members of the club. While the rest of the team was suffering at the Nature Valley Grand Prix in Minnesota, Dean was holding up the team tradition of winning at home. He had this to say:

"As your team member, I just wanted you to know that one of your teammates proudly rode the cow jersey to the very prestigious victory at the weekly Madison training criterium - aka, the Tuesday Night World Championships. I just want to be like the others on the team!"

Good work, Dean. Welcome to the club!
